A very beautiful example of a Scottish 19th century late Georgian manner profusely carved leaf pine fireplace surround. A break front corniced shelf with dragooned beading sits above a stepped frieze centred with an oval paterae , flowing off are tied bellflowers and swags topped with small acorns, with intermittent daisies, all flanked by stop fluted capitols. Below, slim jambs typical of this period- encompassing further high relief flower drops, the opening, endowed with repeating acanthus leaves all resting on splayed foot blocks and further moulded side skirting work. This piece benefits from its original Portoro Marble in grounds.
