A very elegant and versatile Scottish (Edinburgh) 19th Century early Victorian pencil veined Carrara marble fireplace surround. A substantial square edged top shelf sits directly above an unadorned frieze, this is flanked by tall sturdy jambs both of which, are in book matched marble. (Each leg is a mirror image, showing matching marble veins).

The deep return sections gives this piece body -all vertical marble joining sections are carved with cock beads, which was typical during this period. The tops of each jamb have moulded top capping’s which in turn, lends an elegant element to this piece. The whole resting on splayed foot blocks. This piece could work in both a contemporary or period setting, with both an insert or wood burning stove.
