A late 19th Century Victorian manner profusely veined fireplace surround in Filetto Rosso marble.
A plain shelf sits above an unadorned frieze, flanked by wide jambs with raised bullnose frieze line insertions, each jamb is stepped-returning with generous wall sections, all resting on moulded foot blocks.
The piece displays a wonderful example of Filetto Rosso marble, exhibiting excellent group veining and colour.
Filetto Rosso is mined in Italy and was prized for its density and durability for hundreds of years- it was used commercially in churches, and as time progressed found its way in to public buildings all across the world.
Each jamb (leg) width 210mm
Fire opening size: 36” high x 36” wide as shown in our photo. The opening width can be increased up to 38” due to the frieze sitting behind on both jambs.
Shown with a cast iron insert not included, but available separately.
