A larger than normal Scottish 19th century Victorian cast iron fireplace insert by Carron of Falkirk. A very generous outer plate (47' wide) hosting a framed border of egg & flower, terminating onto shaped foot blocks, a protruding fire hood with a border of egg & dart and a cast high relief panel showing symmetrical embellishments. Flanked by tall side panels showing high relief castings of the Greek wine & friendship goddess ( Amphictyonis) holding Amphora (wine vessels)
This is a rare and beautifully cast and crafted piece constructed using the finest cast metal, Carron of Falkirk were world famous in the 19th Century, they were commissioned to cast the large entrance gates currently on the Queens Palace, Holyrood House Edinburgh.
Registration numbers on the reverse tell us this was cast in 1893.
