A well cast antique Scottish cast iron fireplace insert probably by Carron of Falkirk. A framed and beaded border with panels of tied ribbon and tassel with crossed flaming torches, a central movable hood set in an oval beaded border with a mask showing Aurora the goddess of dawn to the centre, the inner opening with repeated acorns and a four barred fire front (bars can be tilted to control air flow) , below, both doors open to vent the fire. Finished with graphite paste and buffed to a shine, reg no to verso states cast in 1908.
This type of insert typically had side and a top panel, panels could be either marble, or cast iron, or tiled-used flat or set at a chamber angle.
