A large and grand 19th Century Scottish Victorian arched spandrel fireplace surround in well figured Carrara marble.
A generous top shelf with an edged profile sits gracefully above a pair of carved arched spandrels each with fluting in the form of a shaped panel. These are in turn centred by a splayed keystone to the centre. The wide sturdy jambs hosting the spandrels have deep returns, giving this piece a grand appearance, finishing onto moulded capping foot block work. This piece has a wrap around under cornice with further marble soffit sections below. A significant detail-most of these Victorian spandrel designs lack. The Carrara marble is well figured, showing pleasing colours and is in fantastic condition.
