Thomas Hope 1769-1831 was an English luminary and designer of the Regency period, he is well known for fathering classical interiors of the period, but allowing a more uncomplicated look aiming for what we now refer to as contemporary.
Grecian white limestone is a sedimentary rock mostly composed of calcite, calcium carbonate and the shells and exoskeletons of marine life, many different variations of limestone occur in nature because of the different conditions that produce this rock. It takes millions of years for limestone to form from sand, shell and mud deposits left by lakes and oceans. Some limestones including this piece contain visible fossil fragments along with calcite and other aragonite materials.
